History

Options Executive Director, Kim Miller

Options was started in 1982 to provide meaningful alternatives to the often underserved segment of the population with psychiatric disabilities. Originally focused on day treatment, the agency's mission was expanded to include residential services in 1984. In 1985 a vocational component was added, which included the creation of The New Hope Bakery in 1986, and the addition of The New Hope Cafe in 1988.

Over the past two decades, Options has been an innovator and leader in bringing effective, evidence based programs to the state of Oregon. Currently we provide strengths based case management, support for community based employment and education, affordable housing and transportation services. We have a 12-member board of directors and employ 40 persons. Options has been an innovator and leader in bringing effective, evidence based programs to Oregon. Our organization has provided direct services to the residents of Josephine County for 23 years. In addition, Options has created affordable housing in three Southern Oregon counties and delivers consultation and training to other mental health service providers statewide.

Direct services have been provided in Josephine County for 23 years, while affordable housing has been created in three southern Oregon counties while the agency has delivered consultation and training statewide. Our mission has evolved over time; programs have been added and discontinued based on their relevance and effectiveness as evaluated by consumers and staff.

Options meets a persistent, ongoing need for care and rehabilitation in the community and has received numerous awards from the cities of Grants Pass and Ashland, Josephine County, the Oregon Housing and Community Services Division and the office of Mental Health and Addictive Services of Oregon and the Maxwell Award for innovation in the development of affordable housing.
