Methamphetamine abuse has reached epidemic proportions in Josephine County
Methamphetamine Early Response Intervention Team
The MERIT Program, funded by SAMHSA, (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration), was an interagency collaboration between Options for Southern Oregon, Adapt, Choices, Ontrack and Dual Solutions. MERIT was committed to providing evidence based treatment and support for individuals and their families who are struggling with methamphetamine abuse.
MERIT offered a holistic approach, including effective substance abuse treatment using the Matrix Model. Matrix consists of an intensive outpatient program incorporating group and individual strategies as well as family involvement and community based support groups for recovery.

Additionally, MERIT offered individualized case management services to address other needs such as access to:
- Mental Health services
- Medical services
- Housing
- Employment assistance
- Legal assistance
- Dental services
- Child Care services

Amy Amaral, who works for Choices, is a former team member of M.E.R.I.T. She is now the SE 66 Project Coordinator.
